What is a Community Advocate?
Community advocates are individuals who volunteer to learn about ‘honour’-based abuse (HBA) and harmful practices, how to see when someone is at risk and how to guide them to help. They also advocate for human rights by sharing information and encouraging open conversation and learning in communities.
Who is Savera UK?
Savera UK is a leading charity working to end ‘honour’- based abuse (HBA) and all harmful practices, through direct interventions and safeguarding, advocacy, education, community engagement, awareness-raising and campaigning for policy, attitude and behaviour change.
To be a Community Advocate, you will need:
- Passion to make a difference in the community
- Willingness to stand up for human rights
- Desire to learn and work as part of a team
- Honesty and openness in all interactions
- Time to attend our 8-week Community Advocate Programme (training will be 2-3 hours per week for eight weeks)
- To be over the age of 18
You will receive:
- Training on HBA, harmful practices and community engagement
- Access to a team with experience and knowledge, and opportunities to learn
- Opportunities to develop new and transferable skills
- Ongoing supervision to guide you in your role
- Travel expenses will be covered
What is the process?
- Apply – complete the application form online by 31st January 2025
- Shortlist – we will review all applications and shortlist candidates
- Interview – If shortlisted, you’ll be invited to an informational interview to discuss your application, get to know you better, and explain the expectations of the role
- Training – Successful applicants must attend and pass our mandatory Community Advocate Training Programme, which is created to upskill and prepare you for your responsibilities in this role.
