Savera UK Community Engagement December Update 2017
By Shauna from Savera UK
Savera UK have started to establish their work in Wirral, so far we are in the process of developing a community drop-in that can be accessed by BME communities. Savera UK attended the 'Orange the Wirral' event organised by Tomorrow’s Women as part of the Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women. We had the opportunity to present at the event and promote what we do as well as listening to incredibly powerful speakers and other influential organisations.
Savera UK’s was delighted to take part in the Liverpool John Moores Fresher’s Fair in September. So many students flooded to ACC Liverpool to get their freebies and find out about organisations in the area. We had countless numbers of students interested in volunteering for us and also many students who were interested to hear about our services.
Chester Storyhouse's Young Company is working with Cheshire West and Chester Council Domestic Abuse Family Unit, their aim is to create an original performance that explores the attitudes of young people towards domestic abuse. They have contact Savera UK to provide them with information and guidance around the issues of BME domestic abuse and harmful practices to ensure they develop appropriate storyline for their performances, which are looking to start in May.
As mentioned, Savera UK were very lucky to receive tickets to Gulliver’s World Community Weekend in October. We were able to take a group of our clients and their children to enjoy the rides. We used the money that was raised for us through independent businesses in Liverpool for the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Honour Killings in July. We are still very grateful to Mackenzie’s Whiskey Bar, Root Coffee and Lovelocks for their contribution to our cause.
Savera UK will also have a presence at LIPA in December, having a stall and informing those young people about our services.
