4 ways you can support Savera UK this International Women’s Day

Savera UK safeguard those at risk OF horrific incidents of honour-based violence, female genital mutilation and forced marriage. Since Savera UK was established in 2010, the charity has been dedicated to tackling domestic abuse within black and minority ethnic communities and raising awareness among professionals and practitioners about these harmful practices. Savera UK has made an outstanding contribution to protecting some of the most vulnerable and marginalised individuals in our local communities.

Here are 4 ways you can support us this International Women's Day:

1. Fundraising

All money raised for Savera UK goes back into the running of the service that supports those at risk of domestic abuse and harmful practices from black and minority ethnic communities. If you would like to fundraise for us then please click here

Or, support people who are already fundraising for us!

Patricia O’Dwyer is running the Paris Marathon for us this year and has been very busy training. To sponsor her, click here

The Pelican and the Rose have created a lovely charity tee for Savera UK with £5 of each sale going to the charity. To get your t-shirt now, click here

2. Volunteer

If you would like to be part of an organisation that Elle named Nine Incredible Women's Organisations To Get Involved With In 2018 then why not volunteer for Savera UK? We are always recruiting volunteers to help at events, give peer support to our clients or you might have a specialist skill that you would like to offer to our service such as childcare. If you are interested in volunteering for us then click here

3. Donate

Savera UK support survivors of honour based abuse, forced marriage and FGM. A lot of the support that our service users need is around social isolation therefore money donated to the service allows us to do something amazing things for our service users and their families. It might be a trip to the beach, a cinema day or a trip to the Manchester festive markets! It also helps fund our weekly coffee mornings. 4. Spread the word!

Savera UK are breaking the silence on taboo subjects within the communities they are most prevalent. We work to protect those who are at risk of harmful practices which are a violation of basic human rights and consent. We offer cultural sensitive one-to-one support and advocacy to our service users and offer training on these issues to professionals as well. We also work with schools and young people who will raise awareness with their peers. We need you to stand with us and fight so that another girl doesn’t get cut, so that no one else is forced into a marriage or killed for bringing “shame” on their family and community. Help spread the word!
